Must-Have Business Apps for the DIY Entrepreneur

I love my smart phone (who doesn’t?) – especially all the fun and useful apps that help me stay organized day-to-day. As a publicist, which ones are my favorites? From staying organized to keeping on top of social media accounts, here are a few must-have business apps that I have on my iPhone:

Business Apps I Use Every Day:

  • Calendar & Mail – Okay, these are two default apps that came on my phone, but I rely on them very heavily. I love how easy they were to set up with my Google accounts (which I use both personally and for work) so I can check all my email accounts and check my personal and work calendars no matter where I am.
  • TeuxDeux – I use this on my phone and online. When I’m working on my laptop, I can pull it up, drag tasks around to prioritize them and stay on top of my to-do list. When I’m away from the computer, I can pull it up on my phone to add tasks I don’t want to forget or check off a few items I complete on-the-go.
  • Facebook/Google+/Twitter/LinkedIn – Must-haves for anyone using social media (either for themselves or their business), these apps let me check any Facebook pages or Twitter accounts I manage on my phone so I can respond to comments an interact with followers, even if I’m not near a computer.

Business Apps That Come In Handy:

  • Notes – Sometimes finding a pen and a piece of paper can be hard to do, and then you have to make sure you don’t lose the paper. Instead, I write whatever I need to as a note and then when I’m done with it I just send it as an email to myself so I can refer to it when I’m at the computer. Plus I have it saved on my phone so I don’t need to dig through my inbox to track it down later.
  • USPS Mobile – I don’t mail things often, but when I do there are times I need to track down the zip code or find out when the post office closes. In addition to zip codes and location look-ups, this app lets you track a package, order supplies and more.
  • Maps – This is another built-in app I love. My husband will tell you I am terrible with directions. What I love about the maps app is I can put in a location and it will give me three different options I can then choose between. Then, if I find out a road is closed (which actually happened last weekend), I can search again and find an alternate route. I also really like that you can skip ahead a few steps to see what lane you want to be in after you make a turn.

Just For Fun:

  • Words With Friends – This app might not be vital for business, but it’s a great way to take a quick break during the day. Or, if you’re waiting in line, you can pull it up and take your turn. What I love about this one is it keeps your mind sharp and can increase your vocabulary (did you know “dag” is actually a word?)

Other Noteworthy Apps:

  • iLuv Drawing – I don’t have kids quite yet, but when I do I know this app will be great for them. Most drawing apps out there are basically coloring books, but this one actually teaches kids how to draw. From people and animals to monsters and dinosaurs, iLuv Drawing’s apps are a must-have for any parent of aspiring artists.
  • TapToTalk – Although this isn’t an app I personally have use for, it’s a fabulous one for those that need it. If you know anyone with a family member that’s non- or partially-verbal, tell him or her about it! It’s made a difference in hundreds of thousands of lives around the world by giving a voice to those that can’t communicate verbally.

What apps did I forget? Do you have any favorite social media, organization or business apps I should be sure to check out? Share them in the comments below!
